GTR is able to source and supply a broad spectrum of high-quality hardwood and softwood timbers;

Generally, GTRs management can originate timbers not naturally grown within the company’s close sphere of influence, given due advance notice;

The portfolio of timbers following this slide is not exhaustive. Quantities and varieties available may vary from time to time and management takes every precaution to ensure adequate stockpiles are maintained in the occasion of excess demand arising;

Quality control of cultivation, logging, and milling (inclusive of timber treatment) is strictly supervised ensuring the end product is exacting in a client’s every specification.

  • KIAAT (Pterocarpus Angolensis) - also known as Kiaat Tree and Wild Teak;
  • Native to Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zaire, and Zambia;
  • Can be sourced in brown/yellow or red colours, depending on what part of the tree is utilised. Kiaat has a straight and interlocked grain with a medium coarse texture;
  • It is notably easy to work with and is resistant to borers and termites. No splitting or warping occurs and Kiaat polishes well;
  • Kiaat is popular as a wood product for the crafting of musical instruments as it well known for producing a rich, resonant sound

    SAPELLI (Entandrophragma Cylindricum) also known as Sapele or Mahogany;
    • Native to The Republic of Congo, Angola, Uganda, Cameroon and Nigeria;
    • Warm, red/brown in colour with golden flecks which darken significantly when exposed to air;
    • This wood is hard with a fine texture and wavy grain making it extremely resistant to attacks from parasitic pests;
    • Often used by high-end car manufacturer Cadillac, for their wood grain interiors.

      KOSIPO (Entandrophragma Candollei) often referred to as Heavy Sapplewood;
      • Native to Angola, Cameroon, The Republic of Congo and Ghana;
      • Usually a dark mahogany or red-brown in colour with a straight and interlocked grain;
      • Even and medium coarse texture.

      IROKO (Chlorophora Excelsa) also known as Moreira in parts of Africa and TEAK in other parts of the world;
      • Native to Angola and other countries in the Western jurisdictions of Africa;
      • Initially yellow in colour but will darken to a rich brown over time;
      • Tough, dense and very durable in nature. Iroko/Teak does not require regular treatment with oil or varnish when used outdoors as it contains abundant, natural oils.

        BUBINGA (Guibourtia Demeusei) and (Guibourtia Coleosperma) also known as African ROSEWOOD (Mussibi)
        • Native to Angola, Cameroon, The Republic of Congo, Chad and other areas of West Africa;
        • Occurs in red or light to dark brown in colour;
        • Dries easily and is very popular as a tabletop or desktop as it is most beautiful as a single, continuous slab;
        • Often used by high-end vehicle manufacturer Lexus, for various woodgrain finishes to cabin interiors.

        PADAUK (Ptrerecarpus Tinctorius) also known and African Padauk;
        • Native to regions of Central and West Africa;
        • Valued for its toughness, stability and decorativeness and for this reason is a favourite amongst woodworkers;
        • Colour varies from a bright red when freshly cut to a warm brown after exposure to the sun. Padauk has a straight to interlocked grain;
        • Perfect for high-end cabinetry, flooring and furniture.

        SIPO (Entandrophragma Utile);

        • Native timber to The Republic of Congo, Angola, Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon and Ghana;
        • Not very hard and hence lightweight. Sipo has a fine but irregular texture which creates a distinctive striping pattern;
        • As a timber that is structurally sound, it creates very attractive furniture so therefore has undeniable value.

        SALIGNA (Eucalyptus Saligna);

        • Also known as Sydney Blue Gum;
        • Found in Australia, Angola (and Plantations in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay);
        • Light to dark red/brown coloured eucalyptus species;
        • Heavy, fairly hard with a coarse, even texture;
        • Easy to work with and for this reason is popular as a floor or decking choice and also pretty well resistant to the elements

        WENGE (Milletia Laurenti)
        • Pronounced as wen-gay
        • Traded as African Blackwood
        • Native to Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea
        • Very dark in colour with a distinctive figure
